2 of 5 bar codes family (Interleaved, Matrix,Industrial, Datalogix, IATA, Invert)

2 of 5 is a numeric only coding scheme which is not very efficient and is rarely used.
He structure of the 2 of 5 barcode family is one of the simplest of the width-modulated industrial bar codes.
  • Two wide elements per five-element character
  • Black bars and white spaces
  • Numeric character sets (0-9)
  • Binary encoding: wide=1; narrow=0. A wide element is typically two to three times wider than a narrow element
  • Non-character start/stop, bar/space pattern
  • Even-parity character check
  • Optional message checksum character
  • Length of symbol : variable, except ITF.
  • Code type is discrete, except ITF or Interleaved.
  • All 2 of 5 barcode symbologies uses only bars, spaces is here only because must be. Only 2 of 5 Interleaved and ITF use bars and spaces, this make this barcodes more compact and compressed.

2 of 5 cointain more barcode types:
  • 2 of 5 Matrix
  • 2 of 5 Datalogic
  • 2 of 5 Industrial
  • 2 of 5 Interleaved
  • 2 of 5 IATA
  • 2 of 5 Invert
  • 2 of 5 Coop

The consistent use of two wide elements out of five provides an easy method of character error checking.

2 of 5 Interleaved, ITF

Good symbology, high density, numeric only, code two digits to one symbol. The odd position digits are encoded in the bars and the even position digits are encoded as spaces.
This barcode must consist of an even number of digits.

Interleaved 2 of 5 optionally allows for a weighted modulo 10 check character for special situations where data security is important. ITF is same as EAN-13, but added one leading zero, because named too ITF-14.
Very compact symbology, because odd digits create bars and even digits is placed into spaces with odd digits in order. Bars and spaces is used.

The consistent use of two wide elements out of five provides an easy method of character error checking. The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode does this by interleaving characters encoded in the bars with characters encoded in the spaces.
Code 2 of 5 does not use intercharacter spaces, this means this code is continual. Its continuous nature and its interleaving of the message characters make the Interleaved code the most complex of the 2 of 5 family to print and decode. The interleaving of characters also requires that an even number of characters be encoded.

ITF 6

Short version of ITF-14.

2 of 5 IATA

A variation of the Standard 2 of 5 scheme commonly used in the airline industry.

2 of 5 Industrial, 2 of 5 STANDARD

Industrial or Standard 2 of 5 is a low-density numeric symbology that has been with us since the 1960s. It has been used in the photofinishing and warehouse sorting industries, as well as sequentially numbering airline tickets. A more efficient implement of Industrial 2 of 5 is the Interleaved 2 of 5 symbology.

2 of 5 Matrix

Bars consists of three black bars and two white bars; two bars in them are wide bar (and others are narrow).
